Abstract :
|
Molecular diffusion in general has been the subject of a great number of theoretical and experimental investigations. Relatively few studies have been made of diffusion within porous solids. The field of diffusion in solids is of much interest to chemical engineers. Several factors are increasing the need for basic work in this field. In this paper the author has tried to derive analytical solution for the counter-current extraction. (Derivations of analytic solutions for single capillaries and through porous spheres have been published previously). Here the intention is to determine the expression relating the tower height and the leaving concentration of the extractant solvent, if diffusion within spheres controls the extraction process.
